Forces of CTRL+P

It’s endearing to see that print is still alive and thriving amongst the instantaneous distribution of electronic data.

Earlier this year (March 2010), many of the top US publications supported by the Magazine Publications of America (MPA) banded together to develop a campaign that “targets advertisers, shareholders and industry influencers, and seeks to reshape the broader conversation about magazines, challenge misperceptions about the medium’s relevancy and longevity, and reinforce magazines’ important cultural role.”

I smiled a couple of weeks ago when I visited a friend of mine, and found this in one the magazines on her coffee-table.

Brewed or instant?

Unless I’m stuck in the middle of nowhere with nothing but a vending machine, then brewed please, with generous amounts of sugar & creme. 🙂

Nisei Festival @ Lil’ Tokyo

Nothing beats living in L to the A. This weekend, I went to the Nisei Festival in the heart of Little Tokyo, amidst all the ruckus of downtown.

What were the highlights of this event, you ask? The music, food, traditional kimonos, folk dancing performances, cosplay, and JDM cars pretty much summed it up.

it’s not complete without the “outfit”….

beautiful craftsmanship

kimono

oldie but goodie…

traditional dancing

Thanks, Mo, for taking excellent pics as always!

Olvera St.

Haven’t had chicken enchilladas in a while. I was in the neighborhood today, so I grabbed a bite and browsed through Olvera.

It was fairly quiet today, no band playing, except for the serenade of guitars strumming in the background….

– of course I’m going to take a picture of the sign….

– my table with pretty tiles

– food + drink

– SAVE O-St.

– & dolls

Jungle Tea-ver

Late night boba run at Jungle with a group of friends after dinner. We had to burn-off all the caffeine from our milk teas, so we played a few rounds at Cue.

Couldn’t help but stare at awe at the following claw machines:

Made in the CSU

I browsed through the old alma mater’s site today and came across this wonderful Made in the CSU Campaign, promoting the value of the Cal-State system while bringing
a sense of camaraderie to students.

It brought me back to the days when I was a student struggling to make visual impact. And to think that once upon a time, I had the privilege of formerly being a part of same group that these future creatives are now leading.

Way to go, ASI!!! Especially the ongoing-revamped
GAS Creative Group!!! Looking good….

Corner Insight

During hot summer afternoons, it’s nice to just be able to sit by the window and browse through random books off the shelf, while sipping on a cold drink (today it was fruit punch).

Sometimes, I also like to open up my swatch book (which my husband gave me on my birthday) and land on a random color (in this case, still reflective of the fruit punch).

I wonder if this is how Pantone decides the Color of the Year? For 2010, they announced that their choice would be Pantone 15-5519 Turquoise, appropriate for Summer, yet universal enough to lead into winter and throughout all the seasons. I can already picture outbursts of tiffany-esque color schemes for upcoming wedding invitations, motifs, etc., but that’s nothing out of the ordinary. 😉

Meanwhile, my choice of the day still stands with
Pantone 207
, just because….
